This month, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) announced updates to their Dental Program that make it easier and more affordable to access essential restorative dental treatments, like crowns and bridges.
From 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2027, the total monetary limit for high-cost, clinically necessary dental items has doubled to $5,980.30. Even better, you now have two years to use this amount, rather than the previous one-year period.* This change gives veterans more flexibility to plan and receive the dental care they need without feeling rushed.
Looking ahead, the biennial limit will remain at $5,980.30 for 1 January 2028 to 31 December 2029 (subject to annual indexation), making it easier to maintain your oral health over time.
In addition to the increased limits, the DVA has expanded the list of approved dental providers to include dental therapists, hygienists, and oral health therapists. This means you now have more options to access the right dental professional for your individual needs, whether it’s preventive care, restorative treatments, or routine check-ups.
These changes are automatically applied, there’s nothing you need to do to activate the new limits but it’s important to remember that unused funds cannot be rolled over into the next two-year period.
Veterans can now enjoy greater flexibility, better access, and more comprehensive coverage for essential dental care—helping to keep your smile healthy, confident, and bright.
