It’s a timely reminder for parents and carers to check whether their child is eligible for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) and make the most of the benefits available.

What is the Child Dental Benefits Schedule?

The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) is a government program that helps eligible children access essential dental care.

Eligible children can receive up to $1,158 in benefits over two consecutive calendar years for a range of general dental services.

CDBS benefits can help cover services such as:

• Dental check-ups and examinations
• X-rays
• Professional teeth cleaning
• Fissure sealing
• Dental fillings
• Extractions
• Other eligible general dental services

The CDBS is designed to help families keep their children’s teeth and gums healthy and address dental concerns before they become more serious.

Does my child qualify for the CDBS?

Eligibility is determined by Services Australia. Generally, the CDBS is available to eligible children aged 0–17 who meet the relevant eligibility requirements.

What if my child has used their CDBS benefits?

If your child has already used their full CDBS benefit, or requires treatment that isn’t covered by the CDBS, eligible children may still be able to access dental care at NSW public dental clinics at no cost, subject to the relevant eligibility requirements.

If you choose to visit a private dental practice, your dentist can also explain what treatment may be covered under your child’s available CDBS benefits.
